Whitney Houston is an American music artist born on August 9, 1963 in Newark, New Jersey. Famous for her powerful voice and romantic songs, she has sold over 200 million records worldwide and has been the most awarded female artist in the history of music.
Houston began her career as a gospel singer in the church where she grew up, before signing a contract with Arista Records in 1983. Her debut album, Whitney Houston, was released in 1985 and immediately topped the charts in the United States. It was followed by two other extremely popular albums, Whitney (1987) and I'm Your Baby Tonight (1990).
Throughout her career, Houston had several major hits, including "Saving All My Love for You", "I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)", "How Will I Know", "The Greatest Love of All" and "I Will Always Love You". She was also a successful actress, starring in the films The Bodyguard (1992), Waiting to Exhale (1995) and The Preacher's Wife (1996).
Unfortunately, Houston's personal life was marked by tragic events, including her difficult divorce from her husband, Bobby Brown, and her struggle with drug addiction. She passed away on February 11, 2012, at the age of 48.
