Usher Raymond IV (born October 14, 1978), known mononymously as Usher, is an American singer, songwriter, dancer, and actor. Born in Dallas, Texas, but raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee, he rose to fame in the late 1990s with the release of his second album My Way (1997). His first single "Nice & Slow" from the album became his first number one single on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US, and the second single "You Make Me Wanna..." peaked at number two. Confessions (2004) established him as one of the best-selling music artists of the 2000s decade, selling 20 million copies worldwide. The album produced his most successful singles, "Yeah!", "Burn", and "Confessions Part II".
Usher has won numerous awards and accolades throughout his career, including 18 Billboard Music Awards and 8 Grammy Awards. He is the current global ambassador for luxury watch brand TAG Heuer. By the end of 2009, Billboard ranked him as the second most successful artist of the 2000s decade, the number one artist of the Hot 100 of the 2000s decade, and the seventh overall artist of the decade. RIAA classifies Usher as one of the best-selling artists of all time in American music history, with over 23 million copies sold in the US. Billboard also placed him at number six on their list of the Top 50 R&B/Hip-Hop Artists of the Last 25 Years. Usher has achieved 9 number one singles on the US Hot 100. Considered an icon and a sex symbol, he has been inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame and the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
