Sam Smith is an English music artist born on May 19, 1992. Smith started his career by singing with local gospel groups as a child. At the age of 16, he made his solo debut with the song "Lay Me Down", which was released in 2012. Smith then signed with the music label Capitol Records. Smith released his first studio album, In the Lonely Hour, in 2014. The album reached number one on the UK albums chart and was certified seven times platinum. Smith then won two Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist. Smith released his second studio album, The Thrill of It All, in 2017. The album reached number one on the UK albums chart and was certified platinum. Smith also released a compilation album, The Singles, in 2019.
