Peter Schilling is a German singer born on January 28, 1956, in Stuttgart, Germany. He is known for his science-fiction songs, particularly for "Major Tom" and "Terra", which were both successful in Germany and France. Peter Schilling has sold over 8 million albums worldwide.
He grew up in Esslingen am Neckar, Germany, and began his musical career in 1974 playing in a rock band named Soilent Grün. In 1981, he released his first solo album, Error in the System, which was a big success in Germany. The album includes his most famous song, "Major Tom", which topped the charts in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. This song has been covered by artists such as David Bowie, Elton John, and Billy Joel.
In 1983, Peter Schilling released his second album, The Different Story (World of Lust and Crime), which includes his second most famous song, "Terra". This song became a hit in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and especially in France, where it reached the top spot. Subsequently, Peter Schilling continued to release successful albums such as No More Words (1984), From Here to Eternity (1986), Dr. Stein (1988), Major Tom (Coming Home) (1990), Life Is Life (1992), The Virtual Life (1994), 1000 Years of Joy (1996) and Error in the System (1998).
