Ne-Yo, born Shaffer Chimere Smith, is an American artist born on October 18, 1982, in Camden, New Jersey. After growing up in Las Vegas, Ne-Yo began his career writing songs for other artists, such as the groups Destiny's Child and Marques Houston. He then made his solo debut with the album "In My Own Words" in 2006, which reached number one on the Billboard 200 and was certified double platinum by the RIAA. The album includes the singles "So Sick" and "Sexy Love", which respectively reached number one and three on the Billboard Hot 100.
His second album, "Because of You", was released in 2007 and sold over two million copies in the United States. It includes the singles "Because of You" and "Do You", which respectively reached number two and fifteen on the Billboard Hot 100. In 2008, Ne-Yo released his third album, "Year of the Gentleman", which reached number two on the Billboard 200 and was certified platinum by the RIAA.
