Kendrick Lamar released his first studio album, Section.80, in 2011, followed by Good Kid, M.A.A.D City in 2012, and To Pimp a Butterfly in 2015. All of his albums have been critically acclaimed and have experienced commercial success. Lamar has won multiple awards, including seven Grammy Awards, and is considered one of the greatest rappers of all time by several media outlets. He has been influenced by artists such as Tupac Shakur, Dr. Dre, N.W.A, and Bone Thugs-n-Harmony.
Born in Compton, California, Kendrick Lamar began writing poetry at the age of eight and started rapping at nine. He signed a contract with Aftermath Entertainment at the age of thirteen, before joining Top Dawg Entertainment in 2004. Lamar then released several well-received mixtapes before finding success with his studio albums.
