James Blunt is a British singer and songwriter. Born on February 22, 1974, in Tidworth, Wiltshire, England, he is the son of Jane, a former teacher, and Charles Blount, a colonel in the British army. He has two sisters, Susannah and Emily. Blunt was raised in various British military bases and attended Elstree School, Woolhampton, and Harrow School, London. After enrolling at the University of Bristol in 1992 to study art history, he later joined the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 1994, where he served in the British army before signing with EMI Records in 2002. His debut album, Back to Bedlam (2004), catapulted his career by reaching number one on the music charts in the United Kingdom and the United States, with 11 million copies sold worldwide and a 11-times platinum certification in the United Kingdom. His second album, All the Lost Souls (2007), also enjoyed success by peaking at number two in several countries, including the United Kingdom, and receiving a seven-times platinum certification in the United Kingdom. His third album, Some Kind of Trouble (2010), was also well-received, reaching the fourth spot on the music charts in several countries, including the United Kingdom, and receiving a two-times platinum certification in the United Kingdom. In 2017, he released a remix album titled The Afterlove.
