Raven is a British heavy metal band from Newcastle upon Tyne, England, founded in 1974 by brothers John and Mark Gallagher along with drummer Paul Bowden. The lineup was later joined by bassist Rob "Wacko" Hunter and guitarist Paul Airhead. Although they did not achieve major commercial success, Raven has been a major influence on speed metal and thrash metal. Known as "the architects of speed metal" and "pioneers of thrash metal," their music is characterized by fast and aggressive riffs, virtuosic guitar solos, and high-energy stage presence. Over the years, Raven has released 11 studio albums, including the highly acclaimed first three: Rock Until You Drop (1981), Wiped Out (1982), and All for One (1983). The band also released a live album, Live at the Inferno (1984). Although they disbanded in 1992, they reunited in 1999 and continue to tour and release new albums. Their latest studio album, Walk Through Fire, was released in 2019.
