BIOGRAPHY

George Ezra Barnett (born 7 June 1993) is an English singer, songwriter and musician. After releasing two EPs, Did You Hear the Rain? in October 2013 and Cassy O' in March 2014, Ezra rose to prominence with the release of his hit single, "Budapest", which reached number one in several countries. His debut studio album, Wanted on Voyage, was released in June 2014, reaching number one in the UK and the top ten in seven other countries. It was also the third best-selling album of 2014 in the UK. Ezra's musical style has been compared to that of Bob Dylan and Ray Davies. His lyrics focus on topics such as love, loss, and wanderlust. George Ezra Barnett was born in Hertfordshire, England, to Jack Barnett, a photographer, and his wife, Julia. He has a sister, Jess, and two brothers, Joel and Ethan. Ezra's mother is Jewish, and his father is of English heritage. Ezra was brought up in a "very musical household", singing hymns and folk songs around the family piano. Ezra began playing guitar at the age of 11 and cites Woody Guthrie and Lead Belly as his main influences. He moved to Bristol in 2011 to pursue his music career. In 2011, Ezra released his first EP, Listen to the Man. The EP's title track, a cover of Elton John's "Your Song", reached number one on the iTunes Singer-Songwriter chart in the UK. Ezra's second EP, Did You Hear the Rain?, was released in October 2013. The lead single from the EP, "Budapest", peaked at number 19 on the UK Singles Chart. The song was also a top 10 hit in Austria, Belgium, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. Ezra's third EP, Cassy O', was released in March 2014. The lead single from the EP, "Blame It on Me", peaked at number six on the UK Singles Chart. Ezra's debut studio album, Wanted on Voyage, was released in June 2014. The album peaked at number one on the UK Albums Chart and was the third best-selling album of 2014 in the UK. Ezra has won several awards, including an Ivor Novello Award and a BRIT Award. In 2015, he was named the BBC's Sound of 2015.
