BIOGRAPHY
The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, is a Canadian RnB singer, songwriter, and producer. He was born on February 16, 1990 in Toronto, Canada. He first gained recognition in 2010 with mixtapes released on the SoundCloud platform. His major breakthrough came in 2011 with the trilogy of mixtapes "House of Balloons", "Thursday", and "Echoes of Silence".
His songs, combining elements of RnB, pop, and soul with often dark and melancholic lyrics, have allowed him to create a unique sound. He later signed with Republic Records and released his first studio album "Kiss Land" in 2013. His second album, "Beauty Behind the Madness" in 2015, propelled him to the top of the charts with hits like "The Hills" and "Can't Feel My Face".
In 2016, he released "Starboy", which was also successful thanks to the title track collaboration with Daft Punk. His fourth and fifth albums, "After Hours" released in 2020, included the hit single "Blinding Lights", which broke several records and became one of the most streamed songs of all time.
The Weeknd is known for his soft, high voice that often contrasts with the dark content of his lyrics. Throughout his career, he has won numerous awards, including three Grammy Awards, and has been nominated for an Oscar. In 2020, Forbes mentioned him as one of the highest-earning celebrities of the year.
